November is national diabetes month, be informed. Diabetes impacts lifestyle and wellbeing, it is a common condition that affects large numbers of people.

Diabetes mellitus is a serious health condition that occurs if your body isn't using insulin correctly. As a result, the blood glucose levels in your bloodstream remains elevated.

Your body produces a hormone called insulin which is necessary to convert glucose into your bloodstream into usable energy. However, this biochemical production may go awry either because insulin isn't available or you are producing high levels of blood glucose which your body cannot use efficiently as fuel.

A diabetic condition may arise in either of three forms that is Type1, Type 2 or gestational diabetes.

The symptoms of type 1 and type 2 diabetes tend to be similar and include increased thirst, increased urination, weight loss, blurred vision and fatigue. Additional signs can include frequent infections and slow-healing.

But, sometimes with type 2 diabetes, there may not be any symptoms in the early stages. Whilst in gestational diabetes symptoms are similar to type 1 and type 2 and may also include nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, severe fatigue and frequent infections of the bladder or vagina.

In type1 diabetes, your immune system attacks and destroys pancreatic cells that manufacture insulin. Some risk factors for developing type 1 diabetes include autoimmune, genetic and environmental factors. This condition can occur at any age and there is no known way to prevent this form of diabetes.

Type 2 is a condition known as insulin resistance diabetes. This occurs even though the pancreas is manufacturing insulin, but for some reason, the cells of the body are not using it properly.

Your blood glucose levels do not stay in the normal range rather it remains abnormally high. Some risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes include a family history of diabetes, obesity, physical inactivity and ethnicity.

The third type of diabetes is peculiarly a woman's health issue. If you are a childbearing woman you can develop gestational diabetes during the third trimester of pregnancy.

Even though the body produces insulin, somehow the pregnancy hormones could prevent insulin from working properly. This results in abnormally high blood sugar levels that can be problematic for mother and baby's health. Normally gestational diabetes clears up after delivery.

Diabetes Care: Controlling and managing all forms of diabetes is crucial to living well and staying as healthy as possible. Diabetes can cause serious health consequences.

If you have Type1 diabetes it is a lifelong condition in which case you must take insulin and learn to manage the disease throughout your life. Without a stable source of insulin, as a Type 1 diabetic, you can develop life-threatening conditions

You can prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes so it's important to recognize your risks. Type 2 diabetes is affiliated with lifestyle.

A treatment plan of close monitoring, control of blood glucose levels along with prescribed eating, dietary habits and exercise can manage and control diabetes. Sometimes diabetic pill medication or insulin injections are prescribed.

Diabetes is a progressive illness, that can trigger many complications, but with good care some afflictions are preventable. Knowing about diabetes is of value to your health, living well and staying fit.
