Winnie's Superb Pound Cake With Vanilla Sauce PYD Chefs

Nothing beats a nice warm slice of pound cake covered in vanilla sauce

Pound CakeIngredients
1-1/4 cups sifted flour
1tsp baking powder
1-2/3 cups butter
1-1/4 cups sugar
1/3 cup of milk
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
6 eggs, beaten
Pinch of salt

Vanilla Sauce: Ingredients
3 Tbsp butter
1 cup sugar
2 Tbsp flour
1 cup water
1 cup milk
Pinch of salt
2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  • Prepare the pound cake:
  • Combine the milk, lemon juice and vanilla,
  • Combine together the flour, baking powder and salt
  • Whip the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl until the sugar dissolves.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Then slowly add the flour mixture alternating with the wet ingredients
  • Mix well after each addition
  • Start with the dry and ending with wet ingredients
  • Spoon the batter into a greased and floured loaf pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 45 or until the loaf tests done.

The sauce:

  • Mix together sugar, flour and salt in a bowl.
  • In a saucepan bring the water, milk and vanilla to a boil.
  • Add the boiling mixture to the sugar mixture gradually,
  • Whisking constantly. Add the butter and whisk until blended.

Tip:

Serve slices of cake with sauce over. Excellent to close off a great meal
but watch out you will crave seconds
