Nothing beats a nice warm slice of pound cake covered in vanilla sauce
Pound Cake: Ingredients
1-1/4 cups sifted flour
1tsp baking powder
1-2/3 cups butter
1-1/4 cups sugar
1/3 cup of milk
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
6 eggs, beaten
Pinch of salt
Vanilla Sauce: Ingredients
3 Tbsp butter
1 cup sugar
2 Tbsp flour
1 cup water
1 cup milk
Pinch of salt
2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Prepare the pound cake:
- Combine the milk, lemon juice and vanilla,
- Combine together the flour, baking powder and salt
- Whip the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Then slowly add the flour mixture alternating with the wet ingredients
- Mix well after each addition
- Start with the dry and ending with wet ingredients
- Spoon the batter into a greased and floured loaf pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 45 or until the loaf tests done.
The sauce:
- Mix together sugar, flour and salt in a bowl.
- In a saucepan bring the water, milk and vanilla to a boil.
- Add the boiling mixture to the sugar mixture gradually,
- Whisking constantly. Add the butter and whisk until blended.
Tip:
Serve slices of cake with sauce over. Excellent to close off a great meal
but watch out you will crave seconds
