Guy with Glaucoma of eyesGlaucoma Is Destructive To Your Vision Health R Coates

March 7th to13th Is Glucoma Awareness Week

For the past four years, I have been under close supervision regarding my eyesight.

This manner of care arose because I had suffered an acute form of glaucoma, with the potential of completely losing sight in the left eye.

Glaucoma is a disease of the eyes. Damage optic nerve due to increased pressure in the eyeball can lead to blindness.

In my case, the eye pressure was so elevated that I was considered blind in that eye. There were a serious concern and intensive efforts to preserve vision in the healthy eye. Through the skill, determination, superior care of the eye specialist, limited vision remained in the affected eye.

I had taken my eyesight for granted a matter of fact. Most seeing people take their vision for granted until threatened with the loss of seeing.

I remember several emotions and feelings come flooding to the surface. At the time, I remember being overcome with a sense of despair, helplessness, and somewhat incapacitated. Fear was on the upswing.

Any vision loss appeared to be profound. I envisioned the altered limitations on my mobility, accustomed lifestyle, and activities being a seeing person. What would or would not be possible without my sight., it was only then that I considered the value of my eyes and vision.

I had sustained an injury to the eye a few years earlier. My vision was not encumbered, so I carried on. Saw the eye doctor once there was no follow-up.

Any problem with your eyesight is a serious matter. However, with early identification of vision problems of diseases or disorders can be treated.  For that reason, do not overlook the importance of investing in regular eye care. Get your eyes checked. A routine eye examination checks eye functioning for clarity of vision, cataracts, and glaucoma.

Remember that you get most of your information about the world from your sense of sight.
